Where Have I been? – “Protecting my peace”

Hello gems, welcome back to my blog and thanks for stopping by. In this post, I’d be discussing the reasons I haven’t been active on Instagram lately.

Sometime last month (February), I decided to take a break from Instagram and Snapchat,  and I was away for over a month, almost 2 months. At first, I felt I won’t be able to stay off for that long but I did. There were times I would subconsciously open Instagram but I would close it immediately, #itwasastruggle.

The reason I took this break was that I needed to protect my peace. I was looking at myself and comparing myself to other Instagram bloggers. I felt I wasn’t doing something right. I saw my followers going and coming and I felt there was nothing I could do about it. I felt bad for my inconsistency in posting pictures on the gram. So I decided this is not good for me, I needed to take a break to actually protect my mind and reboot. I was like I needed to lose those followers I was so worried about losing, I needed to stop posting those pictures that I was so worried that I couldn’t post. I needed to refocus on the reasons I actually started this blog in the first place. So I decided to go off Instagram and Snapchat which were my main channel of distraction. I needed to protect my peace.

My resolution

What I learnt from this break was that it is ok to take a break when you think you need it but be careful that you don’t get too comfortable and decide not to come back that’s you running away. This was how I felt when the one month was over, I was a little bit scared about coming back and wondered if I would return back to the same way it was. But I conquered that fear, I am back. whoop! whoop!! The truth is sometimes I still get that thought of “when would my page grow?” and that is completely fine but unlike before I don’t dwell on that thought, instead I hope for the best.

I was also able to remember and understand that our journey and destination in life is different as well as our pace. The fact that a friend got there faster shouldn’t undermine my own pace. I would get there at the appointed time God has planned. At the end of the day fulfilling God’s purpose for my life is the most important thing.

No-one’s life is perfect, most of the pictures you see on Instagram is just a captured moment of many other moments and most of that many-other-moments you don’t get to see on Instagram or any other social media. The fact is that people try as much as possible to keep their personal lives out of social media, so don’t live your life comparing it to the few bits and pieces people choose to show you. Most of the times when I take pictures for my blog, it’s not like I’m going somewhere fancy. I mostly take the pictures to share how I’d style my clothes with the hope of inspiring someone. Also, I genuinely love styling clothes and being in front of the camera, and after I’m done I go back home to eat my eba (Nigerian food) and sleep😂😂.

By the way, I miss blogging so much, I miss talking to you guys, I miss standing in front of the camera, I miss my captions 😉 and many other things.
